AbiI
Contributors: Florian Tesson
Description
AbiI is a single gene defense system discovered in Lactococcus lactis in 1997 (N/A) .
AbiI is one of the so-called "Abi" systems for "Abortive infection" discovered in the 90's in research related to the dairy industry (N/A) . Even though, their name corresponds to an abortive infection, their mechanism of action does not necessarily correspond to an abortive infection. AbiI is classified as an abortive infection in (N/A) .
Molecular mechanism
As far as we are aware, the molecular mechanism is unknown.
Example of genomic structure
The AbiI is composed of 1 protein: AbiI.
Here is an example found in the RefSeq database:
The AbiI system in Macrococcus brunensis (GCF_022343725.1, NZ_CP092179) is composed of 1 protein: AbiI (WP_239034930.1)
Distribution of the system among prokaryotes
Among the NaN complete genomes of RefSeq, the AbiI is detected in NaN genomes (NaN %). The system was detected in NaN different species.
